A psychiatrist is a physician. I am not a physician, but a psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner.
As a nurse practitioner, I have a master's level training and licensure as an advanced practice registered nurse and I am board certified as a psychiatric and mental health specialist. This enables me to provide services that are also provided by psychiatrists, including the diagnosis of psychiatric disorders and the treatment of these disorders with interventions that include prescription medications.
